Obama and the Wired Presidency

The Barack Obama e-mail contact list contains several millions of e-mail addresses and contact information, gathered during the last 21 months. Are we going to see an “Online Presidency” under President-elect Obama?

Mainstream Media plans for the integration of the Internet as one more media type to contact Supporters have been made by Obama Aids.

Some of you might remember John F. Kennedy’s mastering of the TV media during his presidency to communicate with the public. Is Obama going to transform the way in which politicians communicate?

Obama sure will be the first President of the United States to be connected via the World Wide Web, thus having the capability to instantly communicating with millions of people. With the above mentioned e-mail list, the Obama team has access to their 10 million supporters and this list is still growing.

A list of such dimensions is of unimaginable value. It was proposed to be used collaterally, but ends showed no actual need for this. Over 3 million people are financial sponsors to the Obama campaign and several million others converted into volunteers organizing the campaign and assuring communication flow between Obama and the voters.

A possible use of this “instant communication” can be the motivation of hesitating congress members for legislation, receive feedback on projects or to sign up in local community affairs.

In Cincinnati Obama was able to use the “people network” to improve his position in a formerly known Republican voting area.

Speculations were going on for several months on Obama’s way to use the “List”. And as shows today, it was made good use of.

The final goal of the Obama Staff is to implement a major new media source to the White House communications ops. Count on seeing an Obama White House Web operation which will create a basis for multi-activity platform.

With the 2012 re-elections in mind, all options are being analyzed in depth at the moment.

The “List” contains valuable “detailed issues” information from the supporters.

Until now these lists were considered as being of help for campaigning, nevertheless their governing value had not been asserted. The advantage of having access to this information is of huge importance concerning the build-up of public policy support.
