This year, by late March, the Canadian seal killers armed with clubs and rifles will go again to the nursery floes of the harp and hood seal, to massacre them in the largest mass slaughter of marine mammals on this planet!

Some people have argumented that Seals do kill penguins, and for fun only, they say. It is true that Seals kill Penguins not to eat them but rather to improove their hunting abilities. But they’ve been doing this for thousands of years now and Penguins weren’t at risk of extinctions at cause of the seals!!!
In a study done by the Cambridge University about the Leopard seal predation rates at penguin colonies of different size it becomes evident that there is a natural rythm established. Full Article about this…

Outrage at new mass slaughter of baby seals
Soon after dawn breaks above Newfoundland tomorrow, the ice sheets will be suffused with crimson as an army of hunters embark on the largest single cull of baby seals in more than half a century.

Up to 10,000 animals are scheduled to be killed every hour during daylight. By nightfall on Tuesday, at least 140,000 young harp seals will have been shot, beaten or clubbed to death on the huge ice floes found among the seas off Canada’s far northern coast.

During that 36 hours, around 2,500 men clutching steel-tipped clubs will repeatedly fan out across the vast wilderness in search of their prey. Some seals will be be killed using hakapics - a primitive weapon with a metal spike on the end of a wooden pole. The remainder will be shot with high-velocity, long-distance rifles.

URGENT CAMPAIGN
Another blood bath is coming in the spring of 2008… This year, the DFO just authorized to kill 270,000 baby seals, despite the pleas of organizations and countries to not have the seal cull this year !

In the last weeks, over 260,000 Harp seal pups have drowned in the Gulf of St. Lawrence due to lack of ice. On the Atlantic side
“The Front” (the waters off New Foundland and Labrador), the ice conditions are a bit better, but thousands of baby seals have perished too.

Please! Do something so that this stops!

Thousands of wounded pups (estimates range from 15,000 to 150,000 per year) manage to escape the hunters but die later of their injuries or drown after falling off the ice (pups younger than about 5 weeks cannot swim). The seals are hunted chiefly for their pelts, which are exported to Norway, Finland, Hong Kong, Turkey, Russia, and other countries, where they are used to make expensive designer-label coats and accessories. Among the major vendors of these products are the Italian fashion-wear companies Gucci, Prada, and Versace.
